"I Heard It Through the Grapevine" needs no introduction is a song written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong. Marvin Gaye's version is from his 1968 album In the Groove. It means hearing something informally, about people you know.





The writer suspects that his girlfriend is with another man. Within him a conflict rages, nature willing to give her the benefit of the doubt in the name of love and the desire to save face and acknowledge the situation for what it is.
